My second trip to The Underworld, and once again I was going to see an industrial band there. Tonight was the turn of Stabbing Westward to entertain.
I missed Tribute to Nothing, courtesy of working until 6pm and then having to get home to change, eat, and then get myself from Finchley Central down the Northern Line to Camden Town. But I did manage to get there in plenty of time for the main act.
Stabbing Westward put on a very good show. They were definitely on the lighter side of the Industrial spectrum and sounded a lot more commercial than many of the bands on the scene at the time. They featured on a host of movie soundtracks (such as Clerks and Johnny Mnemonic) but never really achieved mainstream commercial success – although they did get into the rock and alternative charts a fair bit.
