I'm afraid to say I don't recall TG5 at all and the diary entry for them is rather 'blah'. They weren't very good but then The Dandy Lion Alternative Nights were more about the friends and 'club night' aspect than the live bands so no real surprise there. Price: Unknown
Gig List
GIG 106: Creaming Jesus / Sunshot / Homage Freaks – The Marquee, 8th November 1992
I loved The Marquee on Charing Cross Road. Sure, you're shoes would stick to the floor in front of the stage if you stayed still longer than a couple of seconds and they served sometimes not-so-cold beer or cider in plastic pints, but it was a fantastic little venue and one that I spent a … Continue reading GIG 106: Creaming Jesus / Sunshot / Homage Freaks – The Marquee, 8th November 1992
GIG 105: Fluff – The Dandy Lion, 2nd November 1992
It was another Monday night 'Student/Alternative' night in Barnet. The band, Fluff on this occasion, were entirely forgettable but the club night and company were fun. I know Nick, Dawn, Christine, Julie and a double dose of Liz's were all there that night. Price: Unknown
GIG 104: Christian Death / Marionettes – The Dome, 30th October 1992
I was never a big fan of Christian Death, although I was a big fan of the Marionettes (or The Screaming Marionettes as they were called before they dropped the 'Screaming' for some reason) - plus on top of everything else it was almost Halloween and what better way to go and celebrate than a … Continue reading GIG 104: Christian Death / Marionettes – The Dome, 30th October 1992
GIG 103: Rubicon / Le Faye – Brighton Pavilion Theatre, 16th October 1992
One of my favourite bands of the late 80's - all the way through to today - was Fields of the Nephilim. Sadly in the early 90's the band split up with lead singer, Carl McCoy, forming The Nefilim and the rest of the band forming Rubicon. It was Rubicon who drew me down to … Continue reading GIG 103: Rubicon / Le Faye – Brighton Pavilion Theatre, 16th October 1992
GIG 102: Nothing But Trouble – The Dandy Lion, 17th August 1992
It'd been a hectic summer (plus I had a small operation that meant I wasn't going gigging/clubbing so much) so it'd been a while since I'd been to The Dandy Lion's Indie/Student night but we were all up and active again. The music was typically good, the friends (on this occasion Dawn, Julie, Gideon, Shane, … Continue reading GIG 102: Nothing But Trouble – The Dandy Lion, 17th August 1992
GIG 101: Raw Melody Men (aka New Model Army) / Ed Alleyne-Johnson – The Venue, 16th May 1992
It was my 20th birthday and after spending a day in a London pub we trekked down to the wastelands of "South" London and the New Cross Venue for one of those 'elusive' secret gigs. "Raw Melody Men" were the band whose name graced the tickets and poster next to the venue door but we'd … Continue reading GIG 101: Raw Melody Men (aka New Model Army) / Ed Alleyne-Johnson – The Venue, 16th May 1992
GIG 100: The Levellers / Back To The Planet – Brixton Academy, 15th May 1992
It was the day before my 20th birthday and my 100th gig... and what better band to see to celebrate it than one of the best all-time live bands, the mighty Levellers. I'd seen The Levellers only once before (the previous October (GIG 093) at The Town & Country Club in Kentish Town) but this … Continue reading GIG 100: The Levellers / Back To The Planet – Brixton Academy, 15th May 1992
GIG 099: Redd Kross – Camden Palace, 14th April 1992
We ended up at the Feet First club at Camden Palace as they were having an "Album Preview Launch" for The Cure's "Wish" album - their first album since the stunning "Disintegration" back in 1989. Camden Palace was a favourite of mine for many years, as every Tuesday they'd have a massive alternate/indie club night … Continue reading GIG 099: Redd Kross – Camden Palace, 14th April 1992
GIG 098: Witching Hour / Venus Fly Trap – The Scream Club, 8th March 1992
From the metal of Zodiac to 'very much a goth band' with The Witching Hour for my next gig of 1992. Now this one was held somewhere called "The Scream Club" which I can remember absolutely nothing about (the club that is). I suspect it was actually the backroom of a pub similar to The … Continue reading GIG 098: Witching Hour / Venus Fly Trap – The Scream Club, 8th March 1992
