Loner: Prime Time Hero

Solo RPG by Zotiquest Games

Somebody needs help. The people who should give it won’t. You have a car, a skill, and a code you don’t break.

Prime Time Hero is a standalone solo roleplaying game set in the 1980s of network television, the decade of MacGyver, Knight Rider, Magnum P.I. and The A-Team. You are the name in the opening credits. Every session is an episode: a cold open, three acts, a cliffhanger before the last commercial break, and a case that only you can close.

The game runs on Loner: you ask the Oracle closed questions, two dice answer, and tags describe everything instead of numbers. Prime Time Hero adds what the genre needs:

  • an episode structure that runs on Case Tracks, so the progress of the case also tells you which act you are in
  • improvised gadgets that become Gear for one scene
  • vehicle chases, where the car is a character with tags of its own
  • 6 factions with a relationship matrix, and 36 foes, from a smiling corporate raider to a Category Four storm tables for concepts, skills, frailties, gear and names, to build a hero in minutes
  • 36 D66 adventure tables: cases, locations, cold opens, episode titles, cliffhangers, plot twists, climaxes, epilogues, and more for investigation, chases, social scenes and the world of the 1980s
  • a quick start guide and a character sheet

All you need is four six-sided dice, a pencil and some paper. No other Loner book is required.

Loner: Prime Time Hero is available through DriveThruRPG in PDF.
