GIG 139: Divided Opinions – The Dandy Lion, 29th November 1993

I don’t really remember anything about Divided Opinions, or the time they played the Barnet Student/Indie night hosted every Monday by the Dandy Lion. As a local Indie night, which usually featured a live band, it was something that a number of us attended when we could to drink, dance and catch-up.

Apparently Divided Opinions was a Hertfordshire-based band which started life in 1990 and went through various incarnations, with the constant being Joolz, a female singer and violinist. The music was apparently more folky-pop in the early 90’s – I’m guessing along the lines of The Waterboys, Levellers, etc, who were all incredibly popular. The band is still going today, although had a hiatus of a number of years due to Joolz almost dying of liver failure. Today they play ” unabashed psychedelic folk-rock with a dark gothic edge” and have supported a number of acts including Fairport Convention, Wayne Hussey, The Alarm, Seth Lakeman, Midge Ure, Hazel O’Connor and Miles Hunt.
