GIG 027 – King Swamp / MDMA – Marquee, 5th September 1989

I think I may have said it before (back at GIG 009) but I am so pleased I got to see King Swamp live when they were around. They were a great band, and vastly under appreciated. Luckily we got to see them a second time, again at the great Marquee Club on Charing Cross Road. This time the group swelled with Simon, Penny, Tracey, Monty, Pat and Sara all coming along for the gig. We were certainly helping swell the groups fan base through our Sixth Form Common Room ;p

MDMA were in support, who many people won’t have heard of. But I reckon a few more will know the name the band decided to change to a little while later – The Utah Saints. I also saw them years later, as The Utah Saints, and they certainly benefited from both a name change and a few extra years. Their support slot here was ok but nothing special, whilst King Swamp were, once again, really good. I only got to see them one final time (GIG 068) but this one was probably the best time I saw them.
