GIG 005: Ghost Dance / Rose of Avalanche / Ides of March – Town & Country Club, 6th November 1988

Strangely even though I’d been in to goth music since @ 1985/86 it took me until my fifth gig to actually see some goth bands. In this case it was the brilliant Ghost Dance headlining the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town with Manchester’s “Rose of Avalanche” in support along with Ides of March.

When Rose of Avalanche came on you’d have thought they were headlining – the crowd was manic and I ended up in the thick of it along with Jason and Wicksy. Rose of Avalanche blew me away and I wasn’t sure how Ghost Dance would compare to such a stunning set. Well, Ghost Dance matched them and threw something extra on top – even though I ended up having to watch the latter part of the set from the side as I was way too knackered to continue :p

Ghost Dance cemented themselves as an early leader in my ‘favourite live bands of all time’ chart and subsequent performances over the next year or so just strengthened their claim.
