Spooky Shadows, A Collection of Spooky Solo Tools
Shadowdark RPG Supplement by Philip Reed Games
Welcome to Spooky Shadows, a collection of tools for your solo adventures. This PDF requires the official SoloDark rules published by the Arcane Library (as well as the core Shadowdark rulebook) and is not a stand-alone system.
Throughout October, as long as support keeps coming in, I’ll continue adding new pages to the PDF. These will be more tools for your solo campaigns, inspired not only by classic fairy tales but also by old Halloween lore, superstitions from various sources, and whatever my mind wishes to share of its spookier side.

At launch, this 55-page PDF includes:
- Spooky Prompts. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, sights, and sounds.
- Spooky Backgrounds. d10 new backgrounds for your solo adventures.
- Spooky Solo Starters. Seven ideas to set your adventure off with a bang.
- Visiting an Oracle. When you’re between adventures, visit the oracle if you dare.
- Spooky Adventure Generators. Two new tables (similar in structure to the Adventure Generator tables found in the core rulebook), two new adventuring site name tables, and two new alternate adventure generators. (One of which is compatible with the alternate adventure generators included in the Solo Player’s Companion and Solo Tools Expanded.
- New “What Happens?” and “Rumor” tables similar to those found in the core rulebook.
- Spooky Taverns. Not only menu items and drinks, but also a new tavern generator (again, similar to the one included in the core rulebook) and a table of strangers who may be sitting in the corner.
- Spooky Shops. A generator and d10 tables for Poor, Standard, Wealthy, and Special Shops.
- D20 Corpses Swinging from the Gallows. Who was executed and why? Roll the dice and find out!
- Spooky Points of Interest. 50 new points of interest you can use when you want to know the answer to: What have you found in the wilderness?
- Villain Names and Traits. Includes a table of villainess names as well as a table of villain names.
- A new monster generator and a make it “spookier” table.
- Spooky Stuff Found in Spooky Places. Five tables for the times you dig up a corpse, visit a haunted house, seek out advice from a soothsayer or witch, or when you’re ready to brave an ancient tomb.
