Systemless Fantasy Scenario by KR1 Publishing
Are you ready for the Thornwall Frontier?
The Thornwall Frontier is a system-agnostic hexcrawl adventure. It gives you a complete 30-hex starting region built around Thornwall, the same mud-brick frontier town from the Worldbuilding Guidebook’s worked example. Three factions pull the frontier in different directions. Something old is waking up under it. Every hex points to at least one other, so the party always has somewhere to go next.
Instead of a plot you steer, this book gives you a region that answers the questions players actually ask. What’s over there? Who left these tracks? Why is the stone warm? Read it in an evening and run it next Friday.
Whether you run Shadowdark, OSR, 5e, Pathfinder 2e, or another fantasy RPG, the region adapts to your system. No stat blocks. Threats are described in plain language, from “a cautious party can handle this” to “run, now.”
Inside you’ll find:
- Thornwall, a home base with eight NPCs, a living job board, and a rival crew
- Three factions with goals, first contact, and consequences if ignored
- 30 keyed hexes across three zones, each with its own tone and danger
- Search tables that give the best hexes a second visit
- Two session-sized dungeons, the Iron Tower and the Bone Cult Excavation
- Encounter tables by terrain, faction encounters, and a d12 rumor table
- Four quest lines, weather and seasons, and expansion hex templates
- A GM reference sheet with exploration turn, movement, and encounter frequency
- A central mystery told through effects, with the answer left to your table
Perfect for GMs who want a region prepped in one evening, factions that move on their own, and a map that gets stranger the deeper the party goes. 10 to 15 sessions of play.
