Deep beneath the shifting sands of Zahram lies a forgotten tomb guarded by a secret few have lived to tell.
A wealthy collector offers a handsome reward for recovering a mysterious Crystal Orb from the ruins below. Countless treasure hunters have tried. Most vanished into the darkness. Those who returned came back twisted by ancient arcane mutations that no healer could fully explain.
Within the tomb, undead guardians patrol silent halls, misguided cultists worship a civilization they barely understand, and unstable relics threaten to warp flesh and mind. Yet the greatest obstacle is neither monster nor trap.
It is a gargoyle.
An unfailingly polite, painfully awkward guardian who has watched over the Crystal Orb for centuries. It genuinely wants to help intruders avoid danger, but its timid warnings are so vague and apologetic that they usually lead explorers to exactly the wrong conclusions.
Will you earn the trust of Zahram’s reluctant guardian, or become another forgotten skeleton beneath the sands?
The Overly Polite Gargoyle is a Shadowdark RPG adventure for 3rd- to 4th-level characters, featuring a compact tomb crawl, memorable roleplaying encounters, dangerous Arcane Mutations, environmental puzzles, and multiple paths to claiming the Crystal Orb. Combat is not the only solution. Sometimes the greatest challenge is simply remembering your manners.
