Traveler’s Adventures – The Peak That Forgets
Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition Scenario by Muqarnas Games
“I DO NOT REMEMBER, QUITE, WHAT I WAS MEANT TO BE. OTHERS HAVE COME BEFORE YOU. I KNOW THIS, SOMEHOW, THOUGH I CANNOT SAY HOW MANY, OR WHAT PASSED BETWEEN US. PERHAPS YOU CAN TELL ME. PERHAPS, THIS TIME, SOMETHING WILL FINALLY STAY.”
Following the release of The Weight of the Wake, The Peak That Forgets is a self-contained, 4th to 7th level one-shot wilderness adventure designed for 3 to 5 characters, built to run in a single four-to-five-hour session. It turns its gaze from submerged counting houses to an isolated mountain peak where three previous expeditions returned with completely contradictory accounts of what they found at the summit.
By shifting the primary conflict away from a conventional mountain beast or simple illusion and focusing on an ancient, isolated entity (The Unremembering) that radiates its own fundamental, agonizing identity crisis onto anyone who reaches it, this module presents an investigative, survival, and emotional roleplay challenge. Perfect for running a mountain town investigation, a hazardous wilderness ascent, or a empathetic climax focused on restoring an ancient entity’s memory, The Peak That Forgets gives your table an environment where patience, compassion, and collaborative storytelling carry far more weight than simple combat.
Module Features:
- The Shifting Identity Framework: Investigate the mystery of Mount Kessral, where three previous climbs produced three wildly different, yet entirely sincere accounts (a wise guardian, a half-mad beast, and a completely empty summit).
- The Unremembering Antagonist: Engage with an ancient, isolated presence that unintentionally reshapes the memories and perceptions of visitors due to its own vast, centuries-long loss of continuous identity.
- The Memory-Touched Wilderness Ascent: Climb Mount Kessral while navigating grounded physical hazards (such as The Scree Field and The Sudden Storm) alongside subtle, unsettling memory shifts on The Uncertain Path.
- Compassionate Synthesis Climax: Resolve the crisis by presenting the previous contradictory expedition reports to the entity, helping it choose and anchor a stable, lasting identity for future generations of climbers.
- Ready-to-Play Handouts & NPC Seeds: Features complete NPC profiles (including Expedition Sponsor Marlow Estes, retired climber Fenna Ostrum, traumatized soldier Corbin Vale, scholar Prisca Adell, and the Unremembering), structured XP awards, specific treasure rewards, and printable player handouts containing the contradictory historical expedition reports.
