Last night, her hut came walking out of the swamp on two great heron legs and collected what Delphine owed.
The people of Bellrose Landing call her the Fenmother. The oldest of them still whisper la Mère des Marais. She doesn’t hunt. She doesn’t lie. She trades, and the price is always dearer than it sounds when you agree to it.
