PAVIS & BIG RUBBLE COMPANION (DIRECTOR’S CUT):

VOL. 06A — A ROUGH GUIDE TO PAVIS CITY

[The ‘Pavis Grand Plan’ campaign, developed with the assistance of Greg Stafford]

The second Special Edition of this series.

**With full-color interior illustrations by Dario Corallo**

This is a massive expansion on the original Rough Guide to Pavis City (Tentacles Press 2002)

Part 01: The Rough Guide to Pavis City

In the 1560s, a copy of a Pavis City Guide from the Second Age was discovered in the Big Rubble. This first part of Vol. 06A is the recreation of that original, with some small additions:

* The origins of Pavis himself (inc. his family tree) leading up to the founding of the city

* Daily Life & Politics in Pavis City

* Notable Personalities (details & images)

* Huge Map of Pavis City

* Expansive Location Key (over 70 detailed civic sites)

Part 02: Future Histories of Pavis City

A combination of documents added by the Dorasing historian who recreated the Guide, plus some GM articles.

* The Eighteen (!) Foes of Waha

* Detailed Timeline of Pavis City

* The Fate of Cradle Island

* The Iffinbix Files

* & Lots More!

The rest of this book is all information for the GM:

Part 03: Cults, Mysticism & Magic in Pavis City

* The Pavis Cult’s Loyal Apprentices & the Ancient Measure

* The Pavis City Magicians & Sorcery Grimoires

* Secrets & Magic of the Flintnail Dwarfs

* Cults of Orlanth Dragonfriend & Ernalda the Serpent

* Cult of Uleria (full Second Age version)

* Issaries Dragontalker

* & Lots More!

Part 04: Adventuring in Pavis City

Thirty pages of details on crime, personalities, social networks, legendary locations (what 1620s ‘Big Rubble’ locations are like when experienced in 894), and scenario seeds. Plus a bunch of fully-statted RQ:G friends & foes.

Part 05: Beyond Pavis City

In-depth guides to Adari, Feroda, Sog’s Ruins & the Paps. (Sog’s Ruins & the Paps are written so as to also be fully compatible with gaming in the 1620s.) Plus the detailed Cult of Gark the Deceiver.

Appendix: The Pavis Grand Plan

As part of creating this series we gathered and clarified all of the old notes and new ideas, and put together a detailed background piece covering the major aspects of the Grand Plan. In the end we decided it would be great to polish it up and publish it in one of the books. Here towards the end of the series felt like a good spot.

PAVIS EXPERT

For about 18 months around the year 2000, Ian had detailed correspondence with Greg Stafford (creator of Glorantha and head of Issaries Inc. at that time) about the secrets of Old Pavis and the long-rumored ‘Pavis Grand Plan’. In two consecutive years Ian was official Issaries Inc, ‘Pavis Expert’; in 2002 he won the Issaries Inc. award for best Gloranthan short story; and he was also one of the writers for Storm Tribe: The Cults of SartarMasters of Luck & Death and the French Multisim Hero Wars: Pavis book.

An official ‘Pavis Grand Plan’ adventure arc of three books was planned. Agreements were made on what could be in the fanzines, and what should be held back for Issaries Inc. publications. This book (Vol. 06A) is solidly built on the ideas about Pavis City that unfolded as we discussed the origins and elements of Pavis and his Grand Plan.

THE DIRECTOR’S CUT

While ‘Pavis Expert’, Ian was collaborating with Fabian Küchler of Tentacles Press, to publish his extensive 5-year (real-time) Pavis & Big Rubble campaign. This resulted in eight books:

– an intro section in an issue of Ye Booke of Tentacles (YBoT)

– five stand-alone volumes

– two Tradetalkspecial editions

(Most of which has been out of print for quite some time.)

This new series is a massive expansion on those original releases.

There will be a total of nine books — including the two special editions.

As with the original series, the Director’s Cut is designed as an extension on the primary official Pavis & Big Rubble sourcebooks. You will need a version of each of those as the backdrop to this campaign, as well as ideally the RuneQuest: Roleplaying in Glorantha rulebook and Bestiary.

THIS BOOK, AND THE WHOLE SERIES, IS A COLLABORATION!

The work required to get this series revised, expanded and back out there, has proved staggeringly beyond the original estimate. HUGE gratitude to the volunteers assisting with proofing, stats, practical advice, formatting, and other helpful bits and pieces. Plus of course, those who collaborated originally and gave permission to use their articles and art once again.

This book absolutely wouldn’t exist without all these wonderful people!

Plus of course thanks to the players in both versions of the campaign. Without their enthusiasm and immersion, very little of this would have emerged in the first place.

VOL. 07 — THE LIBERATION OF PAVIS (ETA: late 2026)

Vol. 06A is also the backdrop to a major scenario near the start of Vol. 07! The Adventurers are cast back from the 1620s to Pavis City in 894 S.T. – and engage in pivotal historic events. (Visiting a mythic representation is recommended, rather than actual time-travel, with other options also discussed.)

Vol. 07 will wind-up the different elements of the Grand Plan and bring it to a point of activation. It will also cover the Liberation of Pavis by Agrath Whitebull and his Praxian forces.

Indeed, both of these major historical episodes overlap, with your heroic Adventurers having plenty of opportunities to be directly involved in key moments that decide the fate of Old Pavis.

Vol. 6A — A Rough Guide to Pavis City: 894 S.T. [A Second Age Sourcebook] is available through DriveThruRPG in PDF.
