Necromancer

Cortex Prime Setting by Rusty Sellsword Design

You didn’t ask for this. You were just trying to live your life. But little Fluffy pushed off the lid of his shoebox, and now you know things you can’t unknow, and Death has gone completely sideways.

Necromancer by Richard August is an urban fantasy campaign setting in a supernatural London where the hidden world of sorcery—the Demi-Monde—lies just beneath the mundane city. You play necromancers: ordinary people who discovered they can bring things back from the dead, shunned for it by normal society and by the Demi-Monde in equal measure.

Then Death goes haywire. The wrongfully dead start walking. The world is at risk. Suddenly the Demi-Monde needs you—the person they used to spit on. Great.

The Necromancy ability is shared by all player characters but built differently for each: customizable tags and SFX define exactly what kind of death magic your character practices, from Raise Ghost to Control Dead to Speak to Dead. Deathmarks are a special complication inflicted whenever your character kills, a persistent reminder that power over death has its terrible price. Three affiliations (My Life, The World, The Demi-Monde) keep one foot in the mundane and one in the supernatural at all times.

Inspirations: NeverwhereHellboyPenny Dreadful, and Supernatural.
