Amarath

Dragonbane Scenario by Robin Fjarem

This is an epic sandbox adventure for Dragonbane. It takes place in the Realm of Amarath, which exists on its own plane of existence. Here, ruinous powers of Chaos wield great influence, threatening to consume and ultimately erase Amarath from existence. Mutants roam twisted wastelands, and the silhouettes of bizarre flying lizards can be seen against the roiling, violent, multicolored void that envelops the sliver of land that has yet to be devoured.

Fans of Michael Moorcock will see influences of Elric and Stormbringer, those who have dug deep into D&D’s Appendix N will see traces of Poul Anderson’s work, and yet others will see fragments of The Amber Chronicles by Roger Zelazny. But the real sparks that gave life to this book were the Elric illustrations by James Cawthorn. Common to all of the ideas that inspired this book is that they contain planar travel, strange worlds, and adventures of cosmic proportions.

Amarath is not a linear adventure. It can be played in several different ways:

  • Sandbox campaign: The party embarks on an epic quest to save Amarath from being consumed by Chaos. If you want to utilize the majority of the content in the book, this is the preferred way to play
  • One-shot: The GM picks a suitable adventure location and prepares it as a standalone adventure
  • Solo adventure: The player creates a character and embarks on a lonely quest, using the included solo tools
  • Toolbox: Use the content of the book to inspire your own adventures
