GIG 364: New Model Army – Astoria, 21st April 1998

My eighth New Model Army gig and another mega-set with the band playing 29 tracks! I’m not sure if they had a support band but if there was one I don’t know who they were and certainly didn’t see them. I suspect due to the length of their set though that the show was pretty much just them playing.

New Model Army are one of the few bands that I’ve seen a lot over the years that are always really consistently good live. We had quite a crowd come out for this one, including Delphine who had just returned from visiting her family in France earlier in the day, who was seeing them for the first time.

They had just released their seventh album, “Strange Brotherhood”, so a number of the tracks from that album featured for the first time, alongside a mix of classic favourites. Wrapping the encore up with Vengeance guaranteed us all continuing to sing along most of the way home.
