GIG 328: Faith No More – Astoria, 14th May 1997

I really can’t recall if Faith No More actually had a support band or not (I know they had special guests on the ticket). I know I didn’t see one, and the fact that Faith No More played an epic twenty-one song set makes me think they may have just gone without a support and let us have a full FNM evening.

This was the second time I’d seen Faith No More. the first was a couple of years earlier at The Forum (GIG 201) when they had been phenomenal. After the previous evenings lacklustre Type O Negative gig I was ready for a really good night… and Faith No More certainly seemed happy to oblige.

1997 threw up some fantastic live performances from a host of different bands over the course of the year. Project Pitchfork (GIG 324) the previous month was probably my favourite up to this point. But Faith No More were on fire, and certainly joined them as contender for live act of the year for me. Of course we hadn’t even gotten half way through the year at this point – and the latter half of 1997 was going to provide some crackers that would give both bands a run for the title.
