It was one of the rare Thursday nights at the short-lived goth night at Camden Palace. Following a similar pattern to Feet First (The incredibly popular and long running Indie night there on Tuesdays) the night featured DJs and a late night band, followed by more DJs.
This evening it was the turn of Californian band London After Midnight to take the stage. I’d seen them the previous year (GIG 258) and, although I enjoyed some of their tracks to listen to, they hadn’t really done it for me live. I was hoping that this evening would be a better gig.
Unfortunately I found them, once again, rather mediocore live. It’s a shame as they did have some good tracks – but sometimes bands you like on record don’t transfer well to the stage, and vice versa. I know plenty of people who did enjoy them live though, but they just didn’t do it for me sadly.
Even sadder than not really enjoying the band, was that the Thursday night goth expierment at Camden Palace unfortunately didn’t gather enough speed to really get off the ground. Whether that was down to advertising or bein on a Thursday night I don’t know, but it was sad to see the club fizzle out after only a few short months.
