It was the day before New Years Eve, the final Friday of 1994, and my last gig of a very eventful year. Loads of us were meeting up at Full Tilt in the Electric Ballroom (Camden) later to dance the night away but a few of us started out at the Water Rats in Kings Cross to see goth rockers Balaam & The Angel.
The first band on was Zion ‘something’, I didn’t manage to catch the last part of their name. They were ok, fairly enjoyable but nothing that overly stood out. Stella Madris, the second band, were also alright – in truth I probably preferred Zion ‘something’ slightly more, but Stella Madris were perfectly fine too.
I’d never seen Balaam & The Angel before but had an album or two of theirs which I enjoyed, so was quite keen on finally seeing them live.
They were really good and a great way to finish 1994’s gig journey. I’m very pleased I managed to catch them at the time.
