This was the first time (of many) that I saw The Levellers live. Their “A Weapon Called The World” album had been released in 1990 and I’d also picked up a host of their early EPs on 12″ over the previous few months after being introduced to them by Dawn.
Now, if you’ve never seen The Levellers you can’t understand just how bloody amazing they are live, and how addictive they are on mesmerizing your feet into action. We spent the entire gig dancing and, at one point when I needed a loo-break, I was amazed to find that “everybody” was dancing. Usually you have a bunch of people towards the back tow-tapping, nodding their head or even having conversations, but what I discovered was just one big never-ending mass of people dancing and having fun.
Absolutely amazing concert and an amazing band who are still as good today (31 years later) as they were back then!
