GIG 020: Romeo’s Daughter / 3 Rivers – Marquee, 12th July 1989

I almost didn’t make it to see Romeo’s Daughter. There was a tube strike and I had to bus it in to the centre of London, and then managed to get a night bus part of the way home before having to walk the remainder of the 3 or 4 miles.

Romeo’s Daughter were about to have a track in one of the Nightmare on Elm Street movies and were getting a load of press. I’m also pretty sure that Bruce Dickinson (or Iron Maiden) was Managing them, or atleast was somehow involved with the band, which was getting them some extra spotlight too. In any case, I braved the travel chaos and headed down to The Marquee on Charing Cross Road which was rapidly becoming a regular haunt of mine.

Both Romeo’s Daughter and 3 Rivers were pretty good that night but were playing to an usually sparse Marquee crowd (it seems that I was one of the few who still decided to venture out that evening) – although Bruce Dickinson himself was there in the crowd (got to say hello but not much more). I think this was also possibly the first gig I actually went to all by myself, and not knowing anyone else who was going.
