GIG 014: Clannad – Royal Albert Hall, 17th May 1989

To contrast the W.A.S.P. gig the day before my birthday came the Clannad gig the day after my birthday. An altogether different experience, especially in the majestic Royal Albert Hall.

I’d been a big fan of Clannad for a number of years (independently of them scoring the soundtrack to ‘Robin of Sherwood’ which was a major TV series for me in the 80’s) and it was a dream being able to see them live.

I went along with my father and my parents neighbours (Arnie and Maggie) and can’t remember who the support band was. But Clannad themselves were absolutely magical – the dry ice, the way the lights played around through the smoke from the ceiling, the harps, the vocals… everything. Clannad are a great band live. Loved it.
