(RPG PDF Spotlight) Vampire Republic

Vampire Republic

Core Rulebook by Porcupine Publishing

Vampire Republic is a tabletop RPG of revolution and horror. Play resistance fighters undermining a vampire police state that has ruled Transylvania openly since the 1940s.

The vampires are an immortal elite who control every aspect of life from their gothic palace in Cluj. They demand regular blood tithes from terrified peasants, hunt humans for sport under the full moon, and run forbidden experiments in remote castles to create obedient servitors or even greater undead horrors. A favoured class of human servitors – drugged with vampire blood for unnatural resilience – enforces their will. Regular purges by the vampire secret police keep everyone in line. Western powers look the other way to protect business interests.

The PCs can’t win by force. Not completely. The regime’s military is unbeatable. Victory means subversion: turning servitors, peeling away vampire allies, capturing the three Pillars of Control (the Regent’s Palace, state TV, and the military elite). Vampires die only to specific banes: perhaps sunlight, staking, fire, holy symbols, or recreating their original death. But which of them is it?

Missions are player-driven, built collaboratively: urban intrigue or mountain guerrilla ops, with encounter tables for each terrain in the People’s Republic creating emergent gameplay.

How is this connected to Revolution Comes to the Kingdom?

Vampire Republic is based on Revolution Comes to the Kingdom (RCTK). It is set up as a single “valley” in the terms of the RCTK system, to provide a single, concentrated focus. In Vampire Republic the PCs are always on the side of the resistance, and the regime enjoys total superiority in terms of military force. This makes the challenges quite different from a typical RCTK campaign. Here, the focus is on undermining the iron grip of the existing system and bringing the powers that be over to your side. You can’t fight the Transylvanian Liberation Army, but you might turn them against the vampires.
