Solo Tools Expanded, Designed for use with Shadowdark

Solitaire RPGs have become more popular over the last few years, and there’s no end to the number of tools and references that you can find to assist you in your adventures. Several game systems now have their own solo tools (whether official, third-party, or fan-created), but it has been my experience that most solo players are always on the hunt for new tools and ideas that they can mix into their game sessions.

For Shadowdark, your first tool for solo play should be the official SoloDark rules by Shadowdark’s creator, Kelsey Dionne. In this slim booklet – which you can find at thearcanelibrary.com in print and as a free PDF – you will find the oracle and overview of how Shadowdark is played as a solo system. The official rules are enough to get you started, but you may soon find yourself looking for expansions and additions to the suggestions and tools found in the SoloDark booklet.

That’s where Solo Tools Expanded comes into play. This book includes both new tables that may be used with (or in place of) tables found in the official rulebook and the solo booklet as well as entirely new tools that are not based on or inspired by the official rules at all. As you can see by looking at the contents listed on the facing page, Solo Tools Expanded will come in handy whether you’re looking for work in town, exploring the wilderness, or delving into the darkest dungeons of your campaign world.

As with all third-party works, nothing within this book is official, and everything is open to interpretation. These tools are merely that – tools – and you should feel free to use (or abuse) them in whatever way makes your solo sessions fun.
