Call of Cthulhu Campaign by Miskatonic Repository / Chaosium
An epic campaign in Boston and Massachusetts to thwart the machinations of Great Cthulhu and his minions.
It was from the artists and poets that the pertinent answers came, and I know that panic would have broken loose had they been able to compare notes… From February 28th to April 2nd, a large proportion of them had dreamed very bizarre things…
– H.P. Lovecraft, ‘The Call of Cthulhu’
As Great Cthulhu stirs in his watery tomb, his dark and terrible dreams reach deep into the minds of artists and poets across the globe. The grand old city of Boston is no exception, where a desperate poet and journalist suffers nightly from the influence of the Great Old One before disappearing without a trace. He is not alone. Across the city, a young, precocious painter uses her nightmares as inspiration for her most ambitious work, which only attracts a dark, malevolent force to her door. The investigators are called upon to find the poet, make sense of these nightmares and unravel their esoteric horror before the world they know and love is consumed by the anger of a maniacal zealot, all in the name of Great Cthulhu.
This epic campaign is organized into seven core chapters and two optional ones:
– The core campaign is set in March 1925 and sees the investigators traverse the beauty and horror of Boston, its institutions and industries, as dark Mythos forces emerge from the shadows to cleanse the city and its people of their decadence and heresy. Thereafter, they travel to the coast of Massachusetts, where fear and desperation stalk the hearts and minds of the innocent and unaware. Investigators soon realize they must halt a great and terrible evil before it consumes the very fabric of the world they inhabit and overwhelms their sanity altogether.
– Two expansive optional chapters – set in Chicago at the time of the Woman’s World’s Fair, and Chinatown, San Francisco – extend the nightmare of the core campaign to new shores, new skins, and new victims.
This book provides a stand-alone setting, with a wealth of historical detail, to help Keepers bring the vibrant beauty and sophistication of Boston and Massachusetts to life in the Prohibition era. It contains over 100 handouts and maps, along with over 75 NPCs for investigators to encounter.
