Entropy moved faster than we thought. The galaxy decided humanity wasn’t worth saving.
After we burned through our world, we took to the stars. A hundred billion suns presented themselves through The Pattern. Uncountable planets. Seemingly infinite asteroids. And not a single one provided salvation. Dying suns, inhospitable systems, hostile parasitic life, strange phenomena. War between planets, war between stations, war between solar systems, all a proxy for the war to control the dying embers of an entropic galaxy.
In the dark spaces between the stars, something hungers – The Scourge claims the bodies of those who stray too far from the Pattern. Harbingers of Null, the space beyond ours from which power and horror emerge.
Keep your skip running. Keep your crew safe. Welcome to the Span.

The book opens with a quick tour of The Span, a dying galaxy adrift in a dead universe, and the people cursed to witness it’s final days. Broken into regions where factions and cults squabble over the remnants of power while skavs (you!) scour the stars for what they need. More of Null bleeds into this reality with each passing day, spreading its Scourge and quickening the galaxy’s decay.
Rules for making Skavs: the skavenging rats of humanity who leave pointless toil on systems & stations for glory|death among the dwindling stars. Your Job codifies the role you serve on your crew, while your Class describes how you go about that role. Optional Origins align you with specific sci-fi archetypes that modify your sense of humanity.
Stats for all the stuff between your ears and on your person that’ll keep you alive when you step outside your Skip. Weapons, gear, spacesuits, and reality-bending NULLMARKS; evidence of how many times you’ve skipped the Pattern and punched a hole through Null. Borrowed power? Or ticking time-bomb?

Rules for combat. Fighting on and off your Skip is a seamless experience – you can fight off a boarding party of pirates in your cargo bay while the rest of your crew blasts their skips out of the sky. Hold tight for when your pilot tries a flip-and-burn!
Rules for building your Skip: spacecraft named for the groundbreaking Skip Drive that allows for faster-than-light travel using The Shev-Ekman Recurrence Pattern – colloquially called “skipping the Pattern”. Skips are patchworks of salvage and bespoke engineering that form the primary spacecraft of the Span. Create your own mishmash of cargo bays, sleeping quarters, and guns. Name it. Take care of it. It’s your crew’s home|tomb.
Dozens of currencies, company coupons, and credit systems vie for relevance throughout the Span. But water, fuel, and bullets never lose their worth. Collect salvage to increase your Cargo Die: a representation of everything your crew has that might be of value. You’ll roll it every time you trade and loot, waxing and waning in size to reflect your cargo’s value (and your crew’s prestige). You’ll also track your Cargo Tags, which define which specific types of resources you have on hand. [Food] will fill your belly, but you’ll need [Ammo] when the space pirates come knocking.
A galaxy’s worth of Dangers for game masters to deploy. It’s one thing to fight off rival Skavs or Star Syndicate enforcers looking to collect. It’s quite another to face off against the anathematic projections of Null-space that are The Scourge.
Tables to flesh out everything you make, from solar systems to skav pocket litter, or even the bobbles that make your helm’s dash feel like a real home.
