The FASERIP system was first published by TSR in the Marvel Super Heroes RPG in 1984, and later expanded in the Marvel Superheroes Advanced Game in 1986. The game proved very popular, its easy and flexible system allowed for all levels of play from street level crimefighters to cosmic campaigns. Whilst the original games are decades out of print the system has continued to be available through a range of retroclones and has an active fan community online.
I’ve been playing the game since the 80’s and it’s one of my favourite systems. Whilst the game was originally for the Marvel universe I used to convert a load of other superheroes/villains from other comics and shows to the system to incorporate into my games. That’s something that has stayed with me and I love being able to drop cameo, or ongoing, appearences of characters that originate elsewhere in to my games. In this series of articles I’m converting a number of characters from TV shows and comics to the FASERIP system for a bit of fun.
First up I’ll be looking at some of the characters from The Boys, a dark satirical comic and TV series created by Gareth Ennis and Darick Robinson which began life at Wildstorm Comics before moving to Dynamite Entertainment.

HUGHIE CAMPBELL, MEMBER OF THE BOYS
“We save everyone. Even if they don’t deserve it. Especially if they don’t deserve it.”
I’ve created two character sheets for Hughie Campbell – one for him as a normal human and the other with powers after taking a dose of V24.

Powers (Human)
- None.
Talents
- Electronics/Repair: Skilled with technical equipment, wiring, electronics.
- Computer Use: Comfortable with modern systems, hacking with help.
- Investigation/Espionage: Amateur detective instincts, learns quickly in the field.
- Tactician: Expert ability to come up with viable tactics on very short notice.
- Stealth
If playing Hughie as a more established member of The Boys then he will also have Martial Arts A, Guns and Marksmanship.
Limitations
- Vulnerable human — no powers, can be killed by a stray punch from a supe.
- Morally conflicted — often hesitant to act violently.
- Easily manipulated emotionally (family, Annie, Butcher).
Roleplaying Notes
“Look, we’ve all done bad shit. What’s crazy is that our solution to every problem is murder. Violence isn’t brave. If we’re ever going to defeat monsters, we have to start acting human.”
Initially an ordinary, mild-mannered young man, Hughie is thrust into the violent world of Supes after the death of his girlfriend at A-Train’s hands. Sensitive, awkward, and idealistic, he often struggles with the brutality of Butcher’s methods, but his conscience and compassion make him a grounding presence for the team. Hughie is resourceful and determined, gradually growing into his role as more than just the “everyman” among hardened fighters. Though he sometimes feels insecure about his lack of physical strength, Hughie’s courage lies in his willingness to stand up for what’s right, even when terrified.

HUGHIE CAMPBELL, V24 VERSION
“I thought we could fight Vought the right way. But we can’t. It’s all rigged.”
Trigger: Injection of V24. Powers last 24 hours (often with side effects: nausea, headaches, bleeding). Repeated doses are fatal after ~3–5 uses.
FASERIP Attributes (V24)
- Fighting: Good (10)
- Agility: Excellent (20)
- Strength: Typical (6)
- Endurance: Remarkable (30)
- Reason: Excellent (20)
- Intuition: Remarkable (30)
- Psyche: Good (10)
Health: 66
Karma: 60
Powers (Human)
- Teleportation: Remarkable (30) — can instantly teleport up to several areas away (line of sight or familiar locations).
- Clothes-Shedding Teleport: Involuntary side effect — leaves clothing behind when teleporting.
- Surprise Attack Advantage: Gains +1CS on Fighting when teleporting into melee
- Escape Utility: Can auto-escape grapples, restraints, or danger zones with a Teleport FEAT.
Talents
- Same as Human Hughie, but with combat talents included.
Limitations (V24)
- Time Limit: 24 hours, then powers vanish.
- Fatal Side Effects: Repeated use causes lethal brain and organ damage (GM should track cumulative use).
- Power Instability: Stress can cause mis-teleports (GM roll for errors).
- Embarrassment: Clothes don’t teleport — awkward in roleplay situations..
Roleplaying Notes
“This is never gonna stop. There’s just going to be more blood and… awfulness.”
V24 Hughie Campbell is a nervous but surprisingly effective wild card. His teleportation gives him agility and unpredictability far beyond his usual fragile self, but he lacks the discipline or confidence of a trained supe. In combat he is someone still learning his powers — wide-eyed, a bit clumsy, but dangerous when desperation kicks in. Hughie’s sudden mobility makes him ideal for ambushes, rescues, or quick escapes, whilst the fact that his clothes don’t teleport with him can create awkward and comedic moments that fit his character.
