Powered by the thrilling Adventure Game Engine, Fifth Season: Roleplaying In the Stillness transports players to the Stillness, where their characters will have to work together to survive cataclysmic Fifth Seasons, defeat dangerous foes, and protect their Comm from threats big and small. The Fifth Season rulebook includes these features:
• Powerful Character Creation: Pick a use-caste (such as the mighty Strongback, the hardy Resistant, or even the dangerous Orogene, possessed of earth powers they struggle to contain), select a specialization (such as Geomest, experts in science; Safeguard, deadly protectors; or Diplomat, silver-tongued speakers), and choose the drive motivating your character (such as the uncontrollable Rebel, the prepared Survivor, or the ambitious Achiever), and begin your adventures in the Stillness.
• Shared Comms: The heart of the game is the settlement you create with your friends. Your characters fight to preserve and nurture it so that the comm flourishes, granting its people better equipment and higher chances of survival.
• Heroic Stunts: The Fifth Season rulebook features a robust stunt system, which brings dynamism and drama to the table. Roll doubles on 3d6 to pull off unexpected moves in combat, perform amazing feats of physical and mental prowess, cut a rival down to size with a few clever words, or even trigger an earth shake.
• Deadly Orogeny: Orogenes learn potent powers ranging from enhanced senses to creating seismic hazards to freezing enemies solid. They also bear the burden of restraining their abilities from harming others, as well as the curse of being social pariahs.
• Game Moderator Guidance: Whether you’re new to RPGs, have never GMed, or are unfamiliar with the setting, the Fifth Season breaks it all down for you, covering everything from planning your first game to managing expectations to helping players share the spotlight. There are sections detailing each of the GM’s four roles: Game Planner, Game Host, Game Runner, and Game Adjudicator.
• Adventures: The rulebook also contains two ready-to-play adventures. In False Season, signs of a Fifth Season emerge, and it’s up to the PCs to find out what’s happening and protect their comm. In The Miroq Festival, the PCs’ Comm needs a celebration—and its lucrative trade negotiations—to go well, but someone’s trying their best to sabotage them.
