The FASERIP system was first published by TSR in the Marvel Super Heroes RPG in 1984, and later expanded in the Marvel Superheroes Advanced Game in 1986. The game proved very popular, its easy and flexible system allowed for all levels of play from street level crimefighters to cosmic campaigns. Whilst the original games are decades out of print the system has continued to be available through a range of retroclones and has an active fan community online.
I’ve been playing the game since the 80’s and it’s one of my favourite systems. Whilst the game was originally for the Marvel universe I used to convert a load of other superheroes/villains from other comics and shows to the system to incorporate into my games. That’s something that has stayed with me and I love being able to drop cameo, or ongoing, appearences of characters that originate elsewhere in to my games. In this series of articles I’m converting a number of characters from TV shows and comics to the FASERIP system for a bit of fun.
First up I’ll be looking at some of the characters from The Boys, a dark satirical comic and TV series created by Gareth Ennis and Darick Robinson which began life at Wildstorm Comics before moving to Dynamite Entertainment.

Powers
- Invisibility (Light Manipulation): Amazing (50) — his carbon skin bends light around his body, rendering him invisible to normal sight and most electronic sensors. Still leaves physical traces (sound, smell, footprints).
- True Invulnerability (Carbon Skin): Monstrous (75) — nearly impervious to bullets, explosives, knives, fire, and most blunt trauma. Only extreme force (industrial explosives, high-level supes, or internal damage) can harm him.
- Stealth: Remarkable (30) — when invisible, gains +2CS to stealth/infiltration attempts.
- Enhanced Endurance: Amazing (50) — resistant to fatigue and physical punishment.
Talents
- Stealth / Infiltration
- Espionage
- Surveillance
- Intimidation (psychological edge due to invisibility)
Contacts
- Vought International
- The Seven (loose ties — not trusted or respected)
Limitations / Weaknesses
- Internal Vulnerability: His skin is only invulnerable on the outside. Internal attacks (like C-4 inserted into his body, as shown in the series) bypass his defenses.
- Arrogance / Voyeurism: Often uses invisibility for petty or perverse purposes; Psyche FEATs may be required to resist impulse.
- No True Offense: Aside from ambushes, he lacks strong offensive powers. He relies heavily on stealth and invulnerability.
- Heat Signature: While invisible, thermal imaging or advanced sensors can still detect him.
Roleplaying Notes
A master of stealth, he can sneak anywhere and give bad guys the surprise of a lifetime. But when he’s not fighting crime and saving the day, Translucent uses his powers in inappropriate ways. From women’s changing rooms to sorority house showers, Translucent loves using his invisibility to lurk where he shouldn’t.
Translucent is essentially a defensive specialist: difficult to hurt, nearly impossible to see, but not very dangerous in straight combat. He works best as a spy, infiltrator, or ambusher. In a Marvel-style comparison, he’s closer to a weaker, creepier Invisible Woman with Luke Cage–style durability, but without Sue’s versatility or Cage’s strength.
