A Call of Cthulhu Gaslight Scenario by Miskatonic Repository / Chaosium
1893. London throbs at the heart of the Empire. Commerce flows through its veins—money, goods, religion, art, philosophy. Civilisation in all its glory. But beneath the pomp and ceremony lies a dark and seditious underbelly, populated by the disenfranchised, displaced, and disempowered—those who feel they have lost something to the machinery of Empire: land, wealth, power, freedom—and those who had nothing to begin with. People ripe to be twisted, corrupted, used by those who understand that the preening of even the mightiest is meaningless in the face of the Mother—the Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young.
There are those who would exploit this uncertainty and inequality for their own perverse ends, acquiring what power they can to fulfil twisted desires. Some return from foreign lands changed—warped in mind and spirit—initiated into black rites by cults hidden in the shadows of Empire. Seduced by rituals of blood-letting, narcotics, and ecstatic violence, they bring their newfound devotion back with them.
One such devotee has made London his temple. His ceremonies are held in a long-abandoned station beneath the streets. By day, he drifts unseen through the alleys of Limehouse—drunk, drugged, and anonymous. By night, he hunts.
He has become emboldened. Where once the rites were hidden, now the killings spill out into the open—outside of the rituals, outside of control. His spells learned abroad shield him still, but carelessness grows in tandem with his appetites.
Whispers haunt the East End: some speak of a return of Jack the Ripper. But the truth is older, darker, and far more terrible.
