Ildmarra – Orcs of the Borderland

Rolemaster / HARP Sourcebook by Monkey Business Games

The Western Borderlands was once a barony called Karl’s Fief, which lay in the Oprenter Empire. The fief was transferred to Baron Karl Eskilsson by King Ulrik in 2940 AA collateral for a loan of 500,000 gold pieces. After the war against the Mandalins and King Ulrik’s surrender in 2944 AA, the fief was left to stand alone against both the Mandalins and the Orcs.

In 2953 AA, the fief was invaded by Orcs from the east, led by the great chieftain Gaggoltar. That same year, the fortress of Eriksborg in the Wind Hills fell, and the following year, the towns of Kabaro by Anja Lake and Rosolto by Rust River were also conquered. The Orcs ravaged and plundered wherever they went, and in the end, only ruins were left behind. The population fled north across the Rust River to Andori.

In 2957, Emperor Adoltus Demarrius gathered the Mandalins, Forest Elves, and Dwarves into an alliance called the Three Kingdoms Alliance. The Alliance went to war, united as one great army, and met the Orcs in a massive battle on the Stone Plains. The Alliance defeated the Orcs, and their chieftain was killed. The remaining Orcs fled to the Red Hills, where the Elves pursued them, but Emperor Adoltus and the Dwarven King, Dwar Egeskjold II, refused to follow.

The Elves and Orcs met in a final battle in the Red Hills, where the Elves were victorious, but the Orcs fought to the last and killed the Elven King, Tarandill, in the battle. The Elves blamed Emperor Adoltus and King Dwar for King Tarandill’s death and dissolved the Alliance, retreating to their forest kingdom. Many of the fief’s Forest Elves followed and left the Fargall Forest, which then turned white and became known as the White Forest. The rest of the Alliance dissolved, and the Mandalins and Dwarves retreated, leaving the realm in ruins.

Years passed, and the old fief became inhabited by wild animals. Small settlements of Mischins and Oprenters arose east of the Wind Hills, with Mischins settling in the north near the Rust River and Oprenters in the south near Anja Lake.
