Cthulhu Ireland

1920s Horror Roleplaying on the Isle of the Fey

Scratch just beneath the surface of 1920s Ireland, remove the thin veneer of religion, science and modern reason and you will find a realm steeped in the old ways. Fairie Folk steal children away at night, leaving changelings in their place; Merrow drag sailors from their fishing boats into the watery depths; and the malevolent Púca lures the unwary to certain death in the depths of heather-clad bogs. The old gods are gone but not forgotten, and those who seek to commune with them will find their sacred places hidden deep within dark forested glens or buried under the ruins of ancient abbeys and even older cairns. In the towns and cities spiritualists undertake seances in candlelit rooms hoping to speak to the dead, while in the countryside the common folk ward their homes against malicious spirits.

Cthulhu Ireland is an update of Mysteries of Ireland, and is a 1920s era sourcebook for Chaosium’s 7th edition Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game. It features:

Guides and high resolution Pdf maps of Ireland’s four major cities: Dublin, Belfast, Cork and Galway;
And, five fiendish scenarios set across the Isle of the Fey:

FEAR THE PÚCA

Stranded in a country pub as a storm rages outside, the Investigators are required to investigate the abduction of Micheal Grenham by the dreaded Púca!

POITÍN FOR FATHER MOLOCH

On the rocky cliffs above the Cruit Peninsula the Investigators are waiting for the arrival of an illicit shipment of poitín. There is the sound of gunfire and a loud scream, followed by a splash. Investigating the shoreline, the Investigators encounter the badly bleeding body of one of their crew. He clutches at the nearest Investigator and with his last breath he says, “They came from below…..you must take it back…..!”

THE DEMON IN ST NICLAUS’S CHURCH

A loud explosion is heard from the old church. This is followed by a loud rumbling noise and a narrow beam of light striking out of the centre of the church and into the sky. Something that should have lain trapped forever has been disturbed from its slumber and is looking for a way out. The Investigators must destroy it before it escapes.

THE SECRET OF THE GOLIGHER CIRCLE

Agnes Crawford has asked the Investigators to look into the death of her brother, Dr William Jackson Crawford. He was a lecturer in Engineering at Queen’s University and died in strange circumstances. His sister thinks that the Goligher Circle, a spiritualist family he was investigating, has something to do with her brother’s deteriorating mental state, and eventual death.

BLOOD FRUIT

After finding a blood-dripped message in an innocuous piece of fruit, the Investigators are drawn to the Island of Ortansey where the fruit was grown. They will encounter the Lord of the Isle who is clearly hiding something, and a large number of islanders who are unwilling to speak to them. What secrets does the island hold; why are there ghosts roaming the plantations at night; why is it so warm; and, most importantly, will the Investigators manage to solve the mystery before something terrible happens on Beltane Eve? – Please note that Blood Fruit contains adult themes and may not be suitable for those under 16.
