Ever since 2010 I’ve kept track of the music I listen to each month. It’s fascinating to see how some bands stay with me over the years whilst others have their moment on my stereo before vanishing from my mind… well, until years later when I check out to see what I was listening to way back when in any case!
Anyway, I ran a Top 50 (which turned in to a Top 100) bands of the month chart on various social media platforms recording my listening habits for posterity and to share my earworms of the month. I listen to a lot of music when working, and also when relaxing. My tastes are fairly broad and I love discovering new bands, as well as new sounds and genres.
I know that this months Top 100 is much later than usual, but I’ve not been online much at all for the last month or so due to not feeling great, so playing catch up now. You’ll be getting the July Top 100 in a week or so, so lots of music!
June saw eleven new entries, with dark jazz band Midnight Smoke coming straight in at #1. There are a few Dark Jazz bands making their enteries into my June listing as it was a genre I only discovered recently and have been really enjoying. Other Dark Jazz enteries include Somewhere off Jazz Street (#11), Manet (#20), Joel Fausto & Illusion Ortchestra (#46), The Thing With Five Eyes (#61), Bohren & der Club of Gore (#67), and Lowering (#71) – and these are also joined by a couple of high risers from last month in the genre, with The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation (up from #95 to #14) and The Lovecraft Sextet (#61 to #21). In addition to the new releases we have 10 artists and bands returning to the Top 100 this month.
