GIG 359: Moonspell / Lacuna Coil – The Underworld – 15th December 1997

When I had seen Moonspell the previous year (supporting Type O Negative at The Astoria – GIG 314) they had blown me away and were a band that I definetly had on my radar to see again. So when they announced a gig at Camden’s Underworld I grabbed myself a ticket and headed down after work on a chilly Monday evening.

Support for the gig was a band called Lacuna Coil. Hailing from Milan in Italy the band had just recently changed their name from Ethereal as that was also being used by a Greek band. I think this was their first UK outting, certainly under the Lacuna Coil name.

They were fantastic live, a really great energy that blew the crowd at The Underworld away. We may have come to the gig for Moonspell but I reckon a lot of people there left as Lacuna Coil fans.

Moonspell had a very hard act to follow, but they were also a really great band and took it in their stride – giving us a fantastic set and certainly making the whole evening a fantastic live experience.
