GIG 357: Portishead – Brixton Academy – 26th November 1997

This was one of the best concerts of 1997. I had been a fan of Portishead since they released their debut album, “Dummy”, in 1994. Their self-titled second album, “Portishead”, was released in September 1997 so they were back on the road and touring in support of it.

You wouldn’t really think it listening to the albums but Beth Gibbons vocals are so powerful live. She is one of the best singers I think I’ve ever seen. Portisheads music is really atmospheric but seeing them live, especially at Brixton Academy which was probably my favourite in London, really brought the whole experience to another level. An amazing experience and I really hope to see them again one day.
