After a day of wandering around Whitby Town and the Abbey we converged on to the Pavilion for the second night of live music. This evening was a similiar pattern for me – the opening act being a band I’d never seen before, followed by two whom I’d seen several times each.
Thankfully Saturday’s oipening act, Sunshine Bline, were a lot better than Fridays one. Sunshine Blind were a US goth band who had released three albums and also appeared on White Wolf’s Vampire: The Masquerade soundtrack ” Music From The Succubus Club”. Given there were quite a few Camarilla LARPERs in attendance I’m sure that helped!
Next up were The Horatii. The first two times I saw The Horatii live I wasn’t all that impressed, but the last time I’d seen them (GIG 343) in the summer I had really enjoyed them. Thankfully they were once again on form and plyed a really good set. The Saturday night of Whitby was certainly shaping up to be much better than Friday!
Headliners for Saturday were Rosetta Stone, who I was also seeing for a fourth time. Previously I’d had one bad gig and two good gigs from them so I was hoping they’d do one better than The Horatii and make it 1-3 as opposed to pulling level with a disapppinting performance. Rosetta Stone were certainly up for closing Whitby’s live portion of the weekend though and played a cracking set through all the dry ice. Best band of the weekend!
Overall I had a great time at the Whitby Gothic Weekend. I’ve often thought about going back there – and many of my friends still make the trip twice a year. I’m not really sure why I haven’t made it back, it’s not like I haven’t had the opportunity over the last 26 years!!
Maybe one day.
