Whilst saturday at Reading Festival was a little light on the bands I saw (only 5!) Sunday certainly made up for it with a grand total of 11 over the course of the day! Kicking things off at midday on the main stage were Radish, who I had seen the previous weekend at V97 and really enjoyed – both then and this time round opening at Reading.
I stayed pretty much the entire day at the main stage so caught Feeder again (fourth time, and second time in a week as they were also at V97). Whilst I really liked them the previous weekend they didn’t perform as well here which was a shame. Up next were punk-rappers Dog Eat Dog and punk-punks Descendents. Both band were really good and got the crowd going, which was good as the next two acts disappointed me – British band 3 Colours Red (who I’d seen at Camden Palace in 1996) and American band Dinosaur Jr who I’d actually have loved to have seen again as whilst I wasn’t keen on them at this festival I think they’d have been great another time.
Next up was British rock band Bush. They were massive in the States but had only moderate success back home in the UK. I had the two albums they’d released so far, but they weren’t regulars on the stereo. That said they were good live and brought the proceedings back up a notch in time for Terrorvision to kick things up even further. This was the sixth time I saw Terrorvision live, and they continued to be one of the best live acts I’d seen.
Marilyn Manson was next up on the Main Stage, the last band on before headliners Metallica would wrap the entire festival up. I’d seen Marilyn Manson twice before, but this was by far the largest stage I’d seen them play. They did magnificantly and played an absolutely storming set.
I was in two-minds about seeing Metallica. I’d seen them twice before and whilst they were very good live, I wasn’t sure I was in the mood for them. So I split my time between the Main Stage watching them and the Melody Maker Stage for a bit of The Verve. Two bands which are vastly different in sound. Both were very good, although Metallica were more to my taste (which didn’t really surprise me).
