GIG 325 : Live – The Forum, 17th April 1997

Live really broke on to the scene with their third album, “Throwing Copper”, which came out in 1994. They were massive in the States, with multiple #1 albums and hit singles, but never achieved anywhere near the same level of success here in the UK. Their highest chart positions being #31 for their 1997 “Secret Samadhi” album which this tour was supporting, and #29 for the single “Lakini’s Juice” from the same album. My favourite of thier singles, “I Alone”, only reached #48 in the UK.

Whilst I had both Throwing Copper and Secret Samadhi, Live were not a band I listened to a lot. I certainly played them, but the same level that I listened to bands like Nirvana or Stone Temple Pilots. My main listening habits were still industrial and goth, with a nice slice of Enigma and Clannad thrown in to mellow things out.

I’ve no idea who the support band was on this occasion as we didn’t get in until after they’d come off stage. Live were very good live. Full of energy and cracking out their hits and album tracks during a very good set. They obviously impressed me enough because I went and saw them again a few months later at Brixton Academy.
