I first discovered Gravity Kills, along with probably most poeple at the time, when they released their debut single ‘Guilty’ in 1996. It got loads of play round the club circuit and I snapped up their self-titled debut album on the back of it. I was big into industrial music at the time and the album didn’t disappoint.
Gravity Kills were over in the UK playing support on the Skunk Anasie tour. I was due to see them again in a couple of days at Brixtion Academy in that capacity, but they’d taken an evening out to play a headline gig at The Garage so I made sure I was there.
I was accompanied by Jess, john, Karen and Richard – and we’d all been (apart from Richard) at friends house warming all afternoon – so had already had a drink or two.
The support band were called Dying Yours. I’ve no idea what they were like or where they were from as they are one of the many bands prior to internet mass proliferation that don’t seem to have been graced with a digital footprint. I didn’t think they were very good though.
Thankfully Gravity Kills were much better. Much, much better. In fact they played a storming set, even if they did only have the one album out so far. I think they probably played the entire album – so being a fan of that certainly played a factor in enjoying it so much I guess.
Great gig, but was certainly pleased to have taken the next day (Monday) off work.
