Welcome to #RPGaDAY2023! Now in its tenth year, #RPGaDAY was originally created by RPG author and games designer David Chapman (Conspiracy X, Doctor Who, etc) as a bit of fun and to get people talking about tabletop roleplaying games. August was chosen, I believe, to coincide with tabletop roleplaying’s gaming mecca that is Gen Con – which usually takes place in the States (Inidanapolis these days) every August.
#RPGaDAY is open to everyone so if you want to join in just check out the prompts below to inspire a blog, vlog, or social media post to celebrate everything great about our hobby with the tag #RPGaDAY2023

Day 5: Oldest Game You’ve Played
I was originally just going to write ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ for this … as that’s the oldest tabletop RPG, originally kicking the whole industry and hobby off back in 1974.
However, I didn’t play the original edition – I started on Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (originally published in 1978) and the first time I played the basic Dungeons & Dragons was actually using the Red Box revised edition which came out in 1983 (I played it a few years later, but only a couple of times as we preferred AD&D).
That said, if you look at the age of the games I also played RuneQuest (originally published in 1978), Chivalry & Sorcery (pub. 1977), Bunnies & Burrows (pub. 1976), Boot Hill (pub. 1975) and Tunnels & Trolls (pub. 1975). So I guess, if you want to remove D&D from the mix as I didn’t played the original 1974 edition of the game, the oldest RPG I’ve played is a toss up between Tunnels & Trolls and Boot Hill…although I’d have played the 1979 reprint editions of both of those games…
